Philip J Landscape Architecture
Having drummed for many years, I took up landscape maintenance as a part time job. After working for two years I decided to up-skill and studied Horticulture at Kildalton College, Kilkenny. There was an opportunity to work abroad after that, so I moved to Oregon for the year before signing up for Landscape Architecture at UCD. Thereafter, I completed a Masters of Architecture (through research) while working in a professional design practice. I then went back to the States (this time, New Jersey), before coming home to set up the business in 2019.
Starting the business, I didn’t have a clue about accounting, tax, VAT, etc. how to run the day-to-day, etc. DSCP offered a Start Your Own Business course one afternoon a week for 6-weeks. It was a game changer. I met other people starting out and everything taught was practical and applicable. It was a gift to be able to discuss and ask questions at the early stages of the business.
Get an accountant, someone on your side. They are an investment – It may seem like it costs a lot starting out, but they will save you in the long run!
