The Dublin Food Co-op started as a small buying club among friends, but has over time grown into a vibrant community with over 2,500 members, 120 volunteers and 18 staff members.
The Dublin Food Co-op operates as a not-for-profit social enterprise, striving to generate a surplus that facilitates more affordable prices, cultivates healthy reserves, and advances the Co-op’s overarching social purpose.
They achieve more affordable prices through bulk ordering and a member volunteering scheme. Members receive a 5% discount on their shopping when they join, but they can receive up to a 25% discount if they can volunteer. Dublin Food Co-op operates several Volunteer Circles: The Shop Ops Circle is the shop volunteers; the Welcome Circle organise everything from talks and events to member onboarding and campaigning. Their volunteers are vital to promoting the social purpose and unique benefits of the Dublin Food Co-op. It has a large amount of local support, created its own tribe, and continues to be a vital addition to the Dublin 8 area.
